When I was a little girl growing up, I had this incredible fascination with Princess Diana. I looked up to her and thought she was the most wonderful person in the world.
I remember watching her life’s trials and tribulations on t.v and trying to understand why she was scrutinized for everything? Even at that age I was too young to fully grasp the severity of it all, but I know I felt truly bad for her. Sitting through hours of the Biography Channel and sifting through hundreds of pictures used to have me mesmerized.
There was something about her face that was kind and genuine. She was so beautiful and much too young to have been through so much. When Princess Diana got into the tragic crash that took her life along with boyfriend Dodi Fayed in the summer of 1997, I was so sad.
Isn’t that weird? I was very young, had certainly never met this person and yet I was devastated about her death. But I don’t think I was alone. People all over the world felt the same.
Maybe it’s because we had an idea of the kind of person she was and all the good she did in the world? Maybe it’s because of the way she was treated by her family and how hard she was trying to simply be happy. She had finally found love and things were looking up, perhaps that’s what made it so tragic.
About 5 years ago, I had the opportunity to visit London, England for the first time. Of course one of the first places on my list to visit- Kensington, Palace, today’s official home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Before that, it was home to Princess Diana from 1981 until her death in 1997. The Palace is surrounded by Kensington Gardens and has been a royal residence since the 17th century. If you want goosebumps, walk through this place. Not only is the structure itself incredible, there is a place dedicated to preserving Diana’s memory. As you walk into this massive floral room you’re greeted by darkness and when you look up, a group of large glass cases surrounded by flood lights fill the room. The glass cases display some of Princess Diana’s most famous gowns. Beaded ball gowns, silk dresses, suits and anything else you can imagine that was FABULOUS.
This is what it looks like.
It was such a great trip and an amazing experience being able to walk through that house. Fascinating. If you have the opportunity to go, I highly recommend it.
I’m gonna stop rambling now and get to my point- it was actually to tell you that THE TRAILER for a new highly-anticipated movie entitled “DIANA” has LEAKED!
The Princess of Wales will be played by the lovely Niomi Watts in the film based on the real life and events of Lady Di. I have been waiting for this for ages! I’m surprised they didn’t make one sooner?
I’m so looking forward to getting a deeper look into her life, the Royal family and I’m curious to see how accurate this portrayal is.
No word yet on the release date but if you’re as excited as I am…it’s coming some time in September!
