Whatcha think – do people in Waterloo Region really know how to drive through a roundabout yet?
I say no. Just no.
I drive the one at Hespeler and Queen almost every day – and it’s safe to say every other day I either have to stop fast because I’ve been cut off or I’m stuck behind someone stopping at the yield when there’s no one around…just as unsafe in my opinion.
Don’t get me wrong – I can see how efficient they can be. But not here. People have still not figured them out – so they’re a mess.
Check out this article from The Record…. 86 crashes in the first 17 months since that roundabout was opened. Crazy!
The Mayor drives the same roundabout daily and is quoted in the article as saying he thinks accidents will drop once drivers figure them out. I still say it won’t happen.
To be fair – not all roundabouts are created equal in Waterloo Region – which makes it more difficult for confused drivers to get used to them.
Even that one at Hespeler and Queen is odd – with it’s off ramp to Queen.
No I don’t have the answer – wish I did. For sure there needs to be more public education if the Region is going to continue to drown us in roundabouts.
I don’t even want to think about Franklin in Cambridge when all those roundabouts are done.
