I am very particular about my socks. I like me my McGregor socks and with as few exceptions, I like them black. I have LOTS of them and I can go out and buy myself a new pair – or three – when I need them. Many people here in Waterloo Region aren’t as fortunate.
Can you imagine not having socks, especially this time of the year? Socks are an important part of good health and are a constant need for homeless people, who spend the majority of time on their feet. Many of the foot-related afflictions from which the homeless suffer—swelling, blisters, skin infections, even frostbite—can be avoided simply by wearing new, dry socks. That’s why The Waterloo Public Library is holding its 3rd Annual Toasty Toes Sock Drive for the Homeless from now until February to 29th.
Last year 700 pairs were generously customers generously donated and here’s hoping we beat that this year. Donated socks will be given to the Bridgeport Café, which is managed by The Working Centre, who will then distribute the socks to the homeless in our community.
You can donate socks at any Waterloo Public Library location between now and the 29th during regular library hours.
