I’m doing it again!!!! My 4th annual 24 Hour Walk For Heart And Stroke begins February 18th at 8:30am.
While some people might think it’s insane (my mom) I love doing it for many, many, many reasons.
When I started doing this 3 years ago it was for very personal reasons, but it’s become about much more than that as I’ve met so many Beat listeners affected by heart disease and stroke. It still boggles my mind that heart disease and stroke take 1 in 3 Canadians before their time and is the leading cause of death among women in Canada.
While the goal of my walk is to raise funds – $30,000 in three years – and awareness about the incredible work the Heart and Stroke Foundation does to help Canadians live longer, it’s also about how we can take better care of ourselves and lead healthier lives.
It’s simple. It’s about eating a heart-healthy diet and making heart-healthy choices that will help you lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.
It’s also about exercise. Exercise is medicine. Making physical activity part of your life can benefit your health significantly and can reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke. Regular activity also helps prevent and control high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, certain types of cancer and obesity.
Maybe, just maybe by walking on a treadmill for 24 hours I can inspire you to get active and take steps to a healthier life. It’s possible and it just takes a little committment.
If you’re not sure where to start with that, you can begin here at The Heart and Stroke Foundation website, ask your doctor, of if you’re ready to really get moving, you can get to Movati Athletic and do some personal training.
Sometimes all it takes is a little guidance and help and I’ve been getting lots of that from the great people at Movati. Not only is it where I’ll be walking for 24 hours, it’s also where I’m a member and where I’m working with personal trainer Ryan.
What have we been doing to get me ready? Well, this …
Maybe reading and watching this has inspired you to get active. To contact Movati Athletic Club and find out more about their programs head here.
