Admit it – your kids melt your heart with the things they do and say each and every day. Of course they do. It’s part of the joy of parenting.
And once those little babies we’ve nurtured since birth become real talking, walking and feeling little people, they can surprise you by doing things that have a positive impact on others in the outside world. It’s those moments that make us parents really sit back in amazement and pride in the good our kids do and are capable of.
A little girl in Illinois recently turned 3 and she wanted a favourite member of her community to share in her birthday celebration. It turns out young Brooklyn has taken a liking to her neighbourhood’s garbage man. In fact, it’s become tradition for Brooklyn and her mom to wait outside their house to see Delvar Dopson stop by in his truck before she heads off to daycare every Thursday morning.
On April 7, when Brooklyn turned 3, she insisted on waiting for Dopson with a birthday cupcake for him. It was a joyful meeting for Dopson, Brooklyn and her mom.
The next week, Dopson arrived with a special belated birthday gift for Brooklyn.
I guess it goes to show that kids are never too young to be taught generosity, kindness and inclusion.
