I’m a warehouse manger at a local company and a good friend of mine recently applied for a job my company had posted. The new hire would have to work directly for me and while I think my friend could do the job, I didn’t want to mix business with pleasure. I disclosed our relationship to my bosses and they decided it was probably a good idea to hire someone else. I know my friend is not happy I wasn’t able to help him get the job but he doesn’t know I may have actually prevented him from getting it. Was it selfish of me to do that? Do I owe him an explanation? – Warehouse Woes in Cambridge
