2 things I LOVE are beginning to combine… Christmas and DIY!
With the Craft Shows around town just booming, I noticed my sister had been on a hunt for a new wreath.
Every place we’ve been too has been stacked full of stunning wreaths, but all varying from 3-100 bucks!
But, we hadn’t found the perfect, for the perfect price, so I decided to get my craft on.. test my skills, and I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER!
I give you…. the Abomnible Snowman from the Classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (one of our favourite Christmas movies)
Now, it was super simple, and actually super cheap! I spent roughly $22.08 before taxes 😀 SCORE!
If you want to make your own –
You Will Need:
- 3-5 White Feather Boas (I got these from the dollar store for $1.25, they have bushier ones at Michaels for $9.99)
- 4 pieces of felt- White, Black, Red, and Blue (I used the thick felt for $1.25 which isn’t as flimzy as normal felt $0.59, allowing the mouth to sit more upright, either will do, and you can thicken or strengthen with cardboard) If you are lucky, you can find the felt at the Dollar Store, if now.. Michaels 😉
- Hot Glue Gun, and Glue Sticks
Now, it’s pretty straight forward from here. I made the mouth and eyes by tracing the foam wreath and cutting the pieces to fit exact, then added an edging in order to glue them to the wreath.
I then cut out random teeth t fit the mouth, I also used a yellow pencil crayon to colour the teeth slightly, as the cartoons teeth are a dirtier yellow.
Once I finished the felt pieces, I used the hot glue gun (WARNING, Please get help if you are young, or accident prone ;)) I made sure to leave spaces where I did no glue the felt to the ring so I would be able to wrap the feather through it.
Then, you do just that, proceed to glue one end of the boa down, and wrap it around the wreath. The more boas, the fluffier, and sturdier your wreathe with be.
Just add a hoop, or ring on the back for hanging, and VOILA!!
