A friend and I meet up for lunch every couple weeks and usually take turns picking up the bill. Last week on my way out of office I realized I’d left my purse at my desk but didn’t worry too much about it because it was his turn to pay. After we ate, he leaned over and told me he’d forgotten his wallet and asked me to cover the bill, saying he’d get it the next two times. This would normally not be an issue. However, we realized we had eaten and had no way to pay for our meal. He convinced me that we had to wait for the waiter to be out of sight and then dash out of there to avoid a bigger issue. I can’t believe I went along with it, but I did. I have felt terrible ever since and I want to make it up to the server and restaurant but I’m afraid what will happen when I go back and explain what happened. To make matters worse, I’m supposed to be at the same restaurant for my grandmother’s birthday in two weeks! Will they forgive me if I pay up now? – Dine & Dasher
