I love my boyfriend, but I find sometimes he can be snooty and he gets that from his Mother.
His whole family really likes to cook, and every Easter they have a potluck and it was my job to bring dessert. I told my boyfriend and his Mom that when I was put on dessert I would be buying something from the store. They both insisted that I cook something and said they look forward to trying whatever I make. I told my boyfriend for weeks leading up to this that I’d be buying something.
He said he’d be upset that I did and that I should at least try. They’re a foodie family- I get it, but my cooking is so bad even my dog has rejected my food.
So anyway. I went and got some pies from the grocery store and I brought them to dinner. My boyfriend was already mad at me before we even got there… and when his Mom found out I didn’t actually cook anything it was like the end of the world and nobody even ate the pies I spent money on.
We waited 40 minutes for his Mom to make cookies because at their family dinners “they don’t do store bought”, and we ate them in silence and we went home and to bed without speaking the rest of the night.
My boyfriend and I are still arguing about this- I think they need to get off their high horse and realize that cooking is just not my thing. Who’s right here?
