A small air carrier has made a pitch to start flying out of The Region of Waterloo International Airport.
Greater Toronto Airways is promising an 18 minute flight to the 6.
The Record quotes Greater Toronto Airways President Chris Nowrouzi as saying he’d like to offer a one-way flight to Billy Bishop Airport, for $100 a flight.
Nowrouzi says he is looking for financial commitments from tech and insurance companies to make the service capable of working successfully, saying corporate subscriptions may be required.
According to Chris Wood, general manager of the Region of Waterloo International Airport, talks are still in the beginning stages, but they’re “cautiously optimistic.”
Wood says the main draw would likely be for executives looking to avoid the traffic ahead of a morning meeting..
“So, instead of giving yourself a three-hour buffer to try and navigate first thing in the morning to downtown, or staying overnight in a hotel, it would give you certainty that you could leave here at, say, 8:00 and be on the ground at the airport there by 8:20.”
In the fall, the airline started flights between Toronto and Niagara-on-the-Lake for $85 each way. Would you consider flying to Toronto to avoid the traffic first thing in the morning & ahead of an important meeting for $100? Share your thoughts!
