My girlfriend and I are planning out our summer vacations and we can’t agree on what to do or where to go. I love beaches and travelling and she loves cottaging and staying close to home. I don’t feel like I get a vacation when I stay close to home and she hates all the waiting in airports and long plane rides. Last year we spent a few weeks at her parents cottage and I thought this year we’d head to Europe and she said she doesn’t want to go.
I suggested a compromise of a trip to Vancouver since it’s Canada’s 150th birthday but she said no to that too. That’s when I suggested I go alone or with a few friends to Europe and she got really upset. She wants to spend her summer vacation with me and I want to spend it with her, but not at the expense of travelling. I love my girlfriend, I want a future with her, but I don’t want to give up travelling when we’re young and have the opportunity to do it. What do I do? Wanderlust in Waterloo
