I am at a major crossroad and having trouble deciding a career choice and I am hoping some beat breakfast listeners can help me out.
I am a recent graduate from Fanshawe College, I have been working full time for a little over 2 years now making a decent salary in the 50’s, I am 22 and I live with my girlfriend. My main dilemma is whether to go back to school and become a licensed engineer, start a software company or continue developing my career. If I stay on my current path I would become a Certified Engineer Technologist and obtain a few more professional designations relating to my career.
If I go back to school I am looking at another 2 years of school (and it’d bring my total school debt to $40-50,000). Once I finish school I would have a Bachelors 4 more years of school to become a licensed engineer, which is better than what I could become with my current job.
I also have a great software idea in mind which I and those who I have shared my idea with feel would be the next Uber. I am confident in my software idea and I know if I allocate all my efforts I could create a successful software company…. I hope, no guarantees in life.
So, in short beat breakfast listeners… Should I give up a well-paid job with career growth to go back to school and start the cycle again?
Should I drop everything and work on this software idea?
Or should I continue developing my career and focus on the opportunities I have available?
