My 14 year daughter has been talking about going out east to visit her 16 year old cousin in Halifax for summer vacation for months. My niece and my sister – her mom – were here in Kitchener last year visiting our parents and the kids grandparents and got along great. The problem is I think my niece is a bad influence and a little too mature for her age. My sister and I have rarely spoken in years. I think she’s irresponsible and let’s her daughter do whatever she likes, and she thinks my husband and I worry too much, need to relax and mind our own business. I don’t really want to go out east since my sister and I are not close, but don’t want to deny my daughter a friendship with her cousin. I’m torn. Do I go out east or let my daughter go? -M in Cambridge
