Morning Beat Breakfast panel,
I would like to start by saying that I didn’t go out looking for a job. This opportunity sort of fell on my lap which makes it harder to decide. I am a big believer in everything happens for a reason, whether to teach us life lessons or an opportunity to better our lives.
I am currently a project manager for a construction company and I am happy where I am, steady growth and appreciation within the company, my own office, generally well taken care off, but long hours 10-12-hour days.
The new opportunity is in sales and project management. So essentially the same work with a sales component added but less hours typically 8-10-hour days. The sales side doesn’t scare me away as I am a people person and feel there would be no issue in meeting the sales quotas.
Where my trouble lies is deciding what to do, Do I stay where I am and continue to grow at a steady pace or do I try something new and risk leaving a well-respected and reputable company with growth for an opportunity to profit from sales with a new but growing company.
Eye for an eye both companies are extremely similar in regards to compensation, benefits and incentives. With one company offering a better office environment (new, and google like with a stocked kitchen/fridge, my own office) the other offering an appealing sales commission but is still in the growing stage (standard rented office space, no own office, no company vehicle)
So Beat listeners and panel, what do I do.
