Though it has been rainy the past few days, it is still summer after all and with that comes summer fashion! Rely on this handy list of fashion faux pas no-no’s to help keep your wardrobe on-point and on-trend while planning your every day and social event outfits for the rest of the summer.
Though they are a neat concept and some even claim they are comfortable, it is highly recommended to not model this holey, rubber footwear out on the town this summer. Sure, keep a pair at home for gardening in the backyard – but there is no amount of comfort that can justify wearing these contraptions out to a restaurant or to grab a quick bevy with your friends on a patio.
2. Socks & Sandals
It is safe to assume that the fashion guru in your family or friend group has instilled the old saying that socks and sandals are a MAJOR fashion faux pas and the fashion police have every right to come and lock you up for wearing the two articles at the same time. This fashion statement is sported quite often by athletes, hockey, lacrosse and soccer players alike, which hey, if you are on your way or coming home from practice – sure, why not – BUT, walking around the mall in thong sandals and knee-high socks is another story.
3. Visible Bra Straps
There is one thing that can completely throw your stellar summer outfit out of whack . . . visible bra straps! There is no better feeling than letting our shoulders brave the summer sun – but to keep your look clean and on-trend, it is highly-recommended to invest in a strapless bra. It is a sad, sad day when an outfit that is completely on-point is ruined by a brightly coloured bra strap that could have so easily been hidden.
4. Sunglasses at Night/Indoors
Did anyone else just bust out into Corey Harts “Sunglasses at Night” song? Take Corey’s advice, “Don’t masquerade with the guy in shades oh no” the ONLY acceptable use of sunglasses at night as a fashion statement is if you can memorize and sing the Corey Hart classic on demand. Failure to comply with this rule will result in the fashion police being notified!
5. (Men) Super Deep V-Neck T-shirts
Gents, there is a time and place for man cleavage – it is suggested to keep the visible chest hair at a respectable minimum this summer when sporting fashionable tees.
6. Not Following Summer Event Dress Codes
When attending any event this summer, consider the dress code and what you believe other attendees will be wearing to the event. For example, wearing cargo shorts to a summer wedding may not be the best choice! By taking the unwritten dress code into consideration, you are in turn showing your respect to the individuals who spent a lot of time and effort putting the shindig together.
Follow these six rules and we promise you will look fierce all summer long!
