My cousin lives in Colorado and is getting married later this year. I was invited to the wedding shower in September and I can’t go, so I bought a gift and was ready to send it when I got what I thought at first was a wedding invitation, but it says while “geography is keeping us from gathering to celebrate, we can shower the couple with gifts” and includes an address. Essentially, it’s an invitation to send more gifts but not attend the wedding. I was really looking forward to going, seeing her and family who I don’t get to see very often.
What made it even more odd was that I’d received a save the date. My brother and other cousins have gotten the same thing. We’ve never seen something like this before, and I really don’t know how to respond when I feel that it’s inappropriate. What do I do?
