Re-Energize week 1 is in the books.
When I found out that I won a one year free membership from the YMCA/91.5 The Beat, I was ecstatic. I knew that this would give me a chance to Re-energize and Re-fresh myself, and also get my family energized.
We signed up at the YMCA in Cambridge and so far my family has loved it. My 2 year old daughter (almost 3 come March 14) has started taking swimming lessons and loves the pool. She NEVER wants to get out when it's time to go. My 7 year old son also loves swimming and right now we have him signed up for Judo class. My wife has enjoyed seeing the enjoyment on my children's faces while they are there doing activities. She will also be getting involved in swimming activities. Come September 2012 we will be welcoming a new addition to the family :)
As for myself, I like the activities they have for the kids, and also some that I will get involved with. I have enjoyed the pool, sauna, and fitness area. My goal to re-energize myself is to improve my cardio. If you’re ever in the fitness area I will be the one wearing the black winter hat all year long. If you see me and want to work out, please ask!
I know my family will enjoy all that we do. My only concern for myself is staying motivated. I hope that I can.

I have been really busy since the beginning of March but have been able to keep up with going to the YMCA at least 3 times a week. I am still just doing Cardio until I talk to my Neurologist and get the ok to do weight training.
I was away visiting my sister and missed the feeling I get from the YMCA, I even went for a run along the boardwalk on Wednesday! Now that I am back in town I am heading to the gym this afternoon for a workout. My boyfriend was getting bored with the elliptical, so he started using the weight machines. He said that yes his arms hurt, but they now feel "powerful” lol. He has lost weight but won't tell me how much.
I have lost another whopping 7.2 lbs since my last check in. I am doing weight watchers and my weigh in day is Thursdays and so I will try to check in on Fridays after I get weighed in.

So I just came home from the YMCA and man am I exhausted! I did go up 0.6 lbs this week which is discouraging but I made sure I didn't let it get me down and instead took the change to have it give me a boost. I didn't have time to go to the gym Friday, but went today instead and stayed for a whole hour. I also talked Ryan into going tomorrow morning. They are changing his schedule at work so I think I am going to start working out in the mornings before work instead of on my way home. I’m not sure how long this will last but he usually wakes me up anyway. That's all for this week!

So this was a much better week. Down 1.2 lbs this week started going to the YMCA in the mornings instead of after work and it has been hard to get up and get moving but I feal great all day when I do. Will be a really had weekend as I have a Fish Fry tonight then dinner at my mom's tomorrow and a big turkey dinner with lots of chocolate Sunday....eeeekkk. Hope I can stay on track. I hope to sneak in a workout on Saturday while Ryan is at work so I don't get to far off track over Easter. I figure as long as I stay on track this week and not go up all is well.

So with Easter this week was not as bad as anticipated. Made it to the YMCA on Saturday instead of the usual Friday and I think that helped to offset some of the over indulging from Sunday. The food was really great on Friday but I was really glad I brought my own salad to help offset the fried fish. I was invited to a Zumba class with some family this past Friday and was surprised by how fun it was and how well I kept up. I guess I am now in better shape than I thought. I am excited to now know that the YMCA offers Zumba classes on Friday's. I think I am going this week. I was also down 1.1 lbs this week even though it was Easter.

So the last two weeks have been up and down for me. I am just getting another cold and at the end of the last 2 weeks I am up .3 lbs so that is not too bad. I have not been back to the YMCA since Monday and am feeling a bit guilty about it but I also am sick so I wouldn't do much good there either. Hopefully I get over this soon and can get right back at it.

So the last 2 weeks have been kind to my weight loss...probably because I have spent so much time at the YMCA. I am down 4.6 lbs since my last weigh in on Thursday but with my birthday this past weekend I am a little leery on this coming week. I did spend more time outside doing physical activities this weekend then I ever have. I spend 3 1/2 hours laying sod and never thought I would have been able to do something like that. Also I am now engaged so I have all the more reason to lose the last 10 lbs. Talk to you all in a week or too.....

First off, let me share with you the day my life changed. It started out like any other day....until I got home from work and checked my messages. You can imagine my delight when I heard the voice of Silks The Prize Guy on my machine saying I won a prize. So I promptly called back. It was confirmed, I won the YMCA Family Membership! It was as if Silks told me I just won a million dollars. Talk about excitement! I got off the phone and told my son. We didn't waste another second. We jumped into the car and drove straight to 91.5 The Beat to claim our prize and then directly to the Y to register. I was at the gym the very next day. Unfortunately, I got that nasty cold that was going around, so I had to wait a while before jumping in (pun intended).
Since joining, I have met with a trainer whom is very passionate about helping people reach their goals. She is awesome. I don't feel like a fish out of water like I have in the past and frankly I have reached that magical point in life, where I finally don't give a damn! Soooo it takes some of us a little longer, lol. All the staff & volunteers at the Stork Family YMCA have been so friendly and helpful. They have a great sense of family and community.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect given my knee situation, but to my pleasant surprise there is much to do! I started out doing 15 min of cardio on the Arc and then some weight training on the various machines. I have lost a few pounds already and can fit back into a couple of pairs of pants I haven’t been able to for a while. I didn’t get to the Y last week for a few days and man, could I feel it in the knees. Non activity apparently hurts more then being active. Shocking! (insert sarcasm) That in itself is a huge incentive not to slack off. The length of time on the Arc has only increased by 5 min but the calorie burn has increased. This week I added the treadmill into my routine to get even more of a burn going. I still have yet to make it to an aquafit class. That is going to be tough but great.
My son goes quite a bit as well and uses the free weights and track. We don’t always go at the same time because of our schedules, but when we do, I think he gets a kick out of seeing mom working out and the sense of pride twinkles in his eyes. Can you believe that in his 16 years he hasn’t seen me at a “normal” weight? Exciting days to come.
It truly is incredible how this has turned things around for me in a short time. I am beating the darkness and within only a month feel like I have made some major strides (a unintended pun but fitting).
I promise my next blog won’t be so long, lol.

I regret to inform you that I've taken a few steps backwards since my last blog. I haven't been to the gym in a few weeks. I started a food journal, but that too didn't last. If you don't write it, it didn't happen :P My energy level has dropped and I'm frustrated that I let this happen. I need to go back. The determination of others is what I need to help me along. Kind of like it takes a village, except in this case the village has no idea! lol
