Baseball Playoffs/Jay-Z Free Concerts/Kanye's Huge Debut

Wednesday, October 01, 2008

IT'S PLAYOFF TIME!!

8 teams get invited to the dance, but only one will stand tall by the end of the month.

This year's MLB playoffs feature the two teams from Chicago with one of them having to play an extra game to get in (Cubs, White Sox), the two LA area teams (Dodgers, Angels), a team that made it to the dance last year (Philadelphia Phillies), a team that hadn't made the playoffs in 26 years (Milwaukee Brewers) a team that made the playoffs for the first time ever (Tampa Bay Rays) and a team looking to defend its World Championship (Boston Red Sox).  Quite a mix!!

The playoff started officially on Monday and if the World Series goes 7 games, the World Championship won't be decided until just before Halloween.

My prediction for the World Series:  The LA Angels will win in 7 games over the Chicago Cubs.  Sorry Cubs fans, I think the 100 year drought will continue.

JAY-Z DOING FREE SHOWS FOR OBAMA

Jay-Z will play two free concerts this weekend in support of voter registration and the campaign of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama for the upcoming U.S. presidential election.

The first show is set for Saturday at Detroit's Cobo Arena. Jay-Z will play Miami's Bayfront Park Amphitheatre the following day.  Voter registration for the upcoming U.S. election ends Monday.

Jay-Z is the latest high-profile artist to sign on for Obama benefits. On Tuesday, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel announced an October 16th fundraiser at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.

KANYE'S "LOVE LOCKDOWN"

Only 10 songs have entered The Billboard Hot 100 in the top three this millennium; the 10th song to begin its chart life in this elite tier is Kanye's "Love Lockdown," which is tied for the second highest debut of 2008 with David Cook's "The Time of My Life" and surpassed only by the Number 2 bow of David Archuleta's "Crush."

The only non-Idol artists to have top three debuts this century are Fall Out Boy and West. The former's "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" entered at Number 2 the week of February 3, 2007.

"Love Lockdown" is the highest debuting single of West's five-year chart span.
