ow, this is a tough one. It is with definite mixed emotions that I say goodbye to 91.5 The Beat. My last day here is Friday August 8th, and I gotta say it's going to be very tough to go. For those of you who are new to this station, or maybe just don't know it's full history, 91.5 The Beat was launched back in February of 2004 by Canwest Mediaworks. But the work leading up to that launch started much further back than that. I was brought on board in November of 2003, the second hire (Sandra our old promotions director was the first) on staff. From there it was a whirlwind of getting things in place, hiring people, and just preparing to give the Tri-Cities a kick-ass new station that it so deserved. In fact, if you can remember before the station went on air, we ran a loop of songs that were just a sample of what we were going to play. Here's a bit of trivia; the first non-musical voice heard on 91.5 The Beat was actually good ol' Mike Daddy doing a little blurb in between songs about this 'brand new radio station coming to KW'. As they say, after that, it's all history.
I
've had the pleasure of working with some amazing talented people over the years, and I can honestly say this has been the most fun I've ever had in my career. From the parody songs and goofs I got to do with Mocha and Big Mike, to being lovingly called '#2' by Adele, to standing on stage in front of thousands of dedicated Beat listeners at Beat Rocks The Block, and everything in between, I have loved every minute of it, and I'm incredibly proud to have been a part of sharing this great radio experience with you. Also thanks to Mike Thurnell and Paul Scott at Conestoga College for allowing me to be a part of the development and nurturing of some great up and coming broadcasting students over the years as well.
S
pecial thanks to our old Boss David for bringing me on board in the first place, and of course to our new ownership for allowing me to continue to grow this past year.
M
ost of all a big thank you to each and every one of you. It's true that without you the listeners, who've supported us from day 1, this station would not be where it is today. Please continue to support 91.5 The Beat and all the amazing people that work there. And also continue to support your local community and the businesses within it - it's a great place!.
I
